“Swing, Shuffle & Samba” with the Taylor University Jazz Ensemble
Butz Carruth Recital Hall | Smith-Hermanson Music Center | Taylor University

The Taylor University Jazz Ensemble will present Swing, Shuffle & Samba, a concert of varied styles of big band jazz, on Thursday, April 30, at 7:30 pm in the Butz Carruth Recital Hall.
Selections to be performed include classic jazz standards such as Stormy Weather and Secret Love as well as contemporary selections like Joshua (as performed by Miles Davis) and C Jam Blues (Ala Mambo!). Island Bopper and YMCA will add a festive flare to the concert, and the trombone section will be featured in a sacred arrangement of This Little Light of Mine.
Student soloists to be featured on this concert are seniors Dan Clemens, trumpet; Joel Helms, trombone; and Joshua Kiers, piano. In addition, newcomers to the band Gardner Stewart, tenor sax, and Cameron Eckmann, alto sax, will be featured.
The jazz ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Albert Harrison, has completed a busy semester with appearances in Chicago at the prestigious Elmhurst College Jazz Festival, in Marion at the Star Financial YMCA for a Valentines Ball, and at Pendleton Correctional Facility where the ensemble performed for 150 men in the facility chapel.
The concert is free and the public is invited to attend this one-hour event. Parking near Smith-Hermanson Music Center is limited due to building construction, and patrons are encouraged to park in the Zondervan Library, Freimuth Administration, and the Reade Center parking lots on campus.
