Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra Performs Martin Luther King Day ConcertPublished: Jan 09, 2018
The Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra (IJO) will present a free concert on Monday, January 15, at 7:30 pm, in the Rediger Chapel/Auditorium. The IJO concert will be held in connection with Taylor University’s 2018 daylong celebration of the federal holiday honoring the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The IJO concert will feature jazz music by notable African-American composers, singers, and bands who have contributed significantly to the Great American Songbook. The program will include hit music of Nat King Cole, Natalie Cole, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Sammy Davis, Stevie Wonder, and Ella Fitzgerald, among others.
The Indianapolis Jazz Orchestra is Indiana’s premier professional repertory large jazz ensemble as well as the state’s official ambassador of big-band jazz. Composed of the leading professional instrumentalists and vocalists from the Central Indiana area, the orchestra is directed by Taylor University adjunct professor Jeff Anderson, who also plays lead trumpet.
The concert is sponsored by Taylor University's Department of Music, Theatre and Dance.
