Advice to incoming students

God has called us to this Christian academic community primarily so we can learn about His world and the people in it.  Your college years will be exciting for many reasons, but keep the priority of learning in strong focus so that you can prepare to serve in whatever path God calls you to follow.

Why I Enjoy Teaching at Taylor

I’m in my twenty-fourth year of teaching at Taylor University, and I still love the classroom!  The time I spend with students as we journey together down the path we call Christian higher education continues to energize me in special ways.  I especially value the experience of grappling together with the difficult subjects of history and searching for our responses as believers.

Major career accomplishments

During my career, I’ve led eleven student and faculty Civil Rights Movement tours of the South, participated in two National Endowment for the Humanities Summer Institutes at Harvard University and Columbia University, published six articles, twenty-one books reviews, and one video presentation, and participated as a presenter or chair on twenty scholarly conference sessions.  I also served as the Indiana Coordinator on the Membership Committee of the Organization of American Historians from 2002-2013.
