Major career accomplishments
Karl R. LaPan is a business professional with over twenty-four years experience in a variety of consumer, industrial, technology, and financial industries. In October 2000, he was appointed the President/CEO of the Northeast Indiana Innovation Park, a high tech, high touch 55 acre campus dedicated to accelerating the growth of innovative companies. In addition, he is a frequent speaker and lecturer on customer service & loyalty, creativity and innovation, generational change, marketing and management strategy, entrepreneurial growth, business and strategic planning, and leadership. In 2005, Mr. LaPan was named one of the top 10 Power Players in Technology in Northeast Indiana by the Fort Wayne Business Journal. In 2011, he was named #10 out of 101 top Connected Leaders in Northeast Indiana by Leadership Ft. Wayne and the Journal-Gazette. He is the co-author of Creating Winning Business Plans, Author House © 2005 with Steve Franks He has authored two books in a series of guide books - Strategies for Advancing Your Organization and Yourself and Business Creativity & Innovation. He is also a co-author with three other writers of a book released in May 2010 entitled, “Best Practices in Action: Guidelines for Implementing First-Class Business Incubation Programs.” Outside of his professional affiliations, his main passion and interests are education, health care, and technology. He has been an associate faculty member in the MBA program at IPFW (School of Business and Management Sciences) and is currently an Adjunct Faculty member in the MBA program at Taylor University. He also serves on the Taylor University MBA Business Advisory Board,Indiana University-Purdue University Ft. Wayne (IPFW) Richard Doermer School of Business Advisory Council, The Indiana University School of Medicine Advisory Council, and the Manchester College President’s Leadership Council. He is married with three young sons and active in his local community. He serves on the board of three high innovative emerging growth companies (BioAvascular Solutions, BioPoly, and TrustBearer Labs). He also serves as the Corporate Secretary and board member of a regional HMO, Physicians Health Plan of Northern Indiana (PHP) and serves on its Finance, Compensation, and Physician Reimbursement Committees. In addition, he is a board member of the National Business Incubation Association (NBIA). In addition, he is a board member of Grabill Bank, a local community bank. He holds a BS (high honors, Summa Cum Laude) in Business Management from Franklin Pierce University (BS with high honors, Summa Cum Laude) and a MS in Human Resource Development from the American University in Washington, DC. He is a graduate of General Electric’s Financial Management Program, and he is certified in One Page Business Plan, Predictive Index, and has completed all five of the professional development programs offered by the Disney Institute. He completed his Dream Manager Coaching Certification program in October 2009, and was certified in December 2010 in Start-up Company’s Start-up Wheel. In addition, in March 2011, Mr. LaPan completed the Stanford University’s School of Business Executive Program for NonProfit Leaders.
