World-renowned Baritone Stephen Smith to Lecture SaturdayPublished: Mar 30, 2016
The Taylor University Department of Music is pleased to welcome world-renowned voice teacher and baritone W. Stephen Smith for a lecture and master class on Saturday. He will conduct an 11:00 a.m. lecture and a 1:30 p.m. master class. Both are in the Butz Carruth Recital Hall in Taylor's Smith-Hermanson Music Center.
Smith, a professor at the Bienen School of Music at Northwestern University, previously was a faculty member at the Julliard School for thirteen years. He has also served on the faculties of the University of Houston, Saint Louis Conservatory of Music, Houston Grand Opera Studio, and Aspen Music Festival and School.
His book, The Naked Voice: A Wholistic Approach to Singing, was published by Oxford University Press in 2007.
Smith’s students include many of today's most noted artists, who have performed leading roles in major opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House at Covent Garden, Lyric Opera of Chicago, and La Scala, and have won numerous prestigious competitions.
