Summer Fine Arts Camp Adds Photography Class for Middle, High School StudentsBy Jim Garringer Published: Apr 25, 2012
The Taylor University Art Department will host its annual Summer Fine Art Camp June 11-15. The camp is designed to introduce local students, grades K-12, to the visual arts.
Program organizers say a new class in digital photography will be offered for students who have completed grades 6 – 12. The class, Photography as Art, will be taught by Taylor photography major Alex Moore and will: explore photography by looking at vision and composition; spend time looking at and discussing the photography of both traditional and contemporary photographers; actively make photographs with meaning and learn to look at the world from a different perspective,; and learn to create photos dealing with the expressive qualities of the subject.
Class times are 1:00-3:00 p.m., and the cost is $55.00. Students will need to provide their own digital camera (a basic point and shoot) and a USB cable.
Also scheduled for grades K-5 is the original Fine Arts camp during which students explore the visual arts through hands on activities using a variety of mediums including drawing, painting and mixed media.
Those classes run in two time blocks according to age group:
Grades K-3 9:00-11:00am
Grades 4-5 1:00-3:00pm
All Classes are for the grade completed; the cost is $45.00. A limited number of scholarships are available- please call the Art Department office for details. There is a 10% discount when registering more than one child from the same family.
