Artistic Creations of Yaquinto, Turner Featured in Metcalf GalleryPublished: Nov 15, 2011
A display featuring the work of artists Robert Giacomo Yaquinto and Laura Barth Turner is on display at Taylor University through December 2.
Turner lives and works in Dallas, Texas. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Bard College in Annandale, NY and a Master in Fine Arts from the University of Texas with a concentration in photography. She teaches photography at several universities in the Dallas area.
“(This project) represents the last two years spent making work in Dallas,” said Turner. “These images are informed by the fact that I have a studio of my own for the first time in my life, and by my own inability to throw things away due to a penchant for saving money and a touch of sentimentality.”
Yaquinto holds Bachelor degrees in Fine Arts and Spanish from the University of Texas.
"Making artwork has less to do with a creative impulse than it does with my need to visually understand my environment,” said Yaquinto. “More often than not, my need is borne out of frustration. I use art making as a means to better comprehend how I got to where I am and how I might make it to someplace better."
The show is open to the public at no charge. The Metcalf Gallery hours are 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday-Friday.
