More than 3,000 Expected This Weekend for 2017 Homecoming and Family Weekend

More than 3,000 Taylor University alumni, parents, family members and friends are expected as Taylor celebrates Homecoming and Family Weekend.

The three-day event begins Friday, October 6, and concludes on Sunday, October 8. Featured activities for alumni, parents, family and friends include alumni awards, food vendors, a cardboard boat regatta, reunions, Taylor Athletic Hall of Fame inductions, and a Saturday evening concert featuring the Grammy Award-nominated band NEEDTOBREATHE.

The Taylor Alumni Association will honor six alumni with special awards. They include:

  • Dick Gygi ’67, Legion of Honor
  • Rich Honig ’80, Distinguished Service Alumnus
  • John Molineux ’02, Distinguished Service Alumnus
  • Jana (Weir ’96) Murphy, Roselyn G. Kerlin Women in Leadership
  • Chant Thompson ’75, Distinguished Service Alumnus
  • Skip Trudeau, Honorary Alumnus

The Taylor University Athletics Department will induct three new members into its Hall of Fame. The 2016 inductees include:

  • Felipe Bedon ’11, Men’s Tennis 2007-2011
  • Kelsey (Pritchard ’12) Bawel, Volleyball 2008-2012
  • Michael Kraynak ’10, Baseball 2006-2010

Saturday evening’s featured program features a private concert for Taylor Homecoming and Family Weekend guests and Taylor students by Grammy-nominated band, NEEDTOBREATHE. The concert is in connection with the band’s All the Feels Tour and is sponsored by the Bond Family Foundation. The concert will be held in the Bond Plaza, adjacent to the LaRita Boren Campus Center, and marks the first major event to be held in the venue. The plaza is named for late Taylor student Billy Bond, who died in 1985.

Saturday, October 7

8:00 am – Taylor Bike Ride, starts at Randall Science Center Parking Lot
8:00 am – 5K Run, starts in front of the Rupp Communication Arts Building
9:30 am – Presidential and Faculty Reception, Euler Science Complex: Lembright Atrium 
12:00 pm – Cardboard Boat Regatta, Taylor Lake      

12:00 pm – C.S. Lewis Center Open House, Zondervan Library, Lower Level
1:00 pm – Football vs. Siena Heights University/Hall of Fame Induction at halftime, Turner Stadium
