Communications professionals from the Taylor alumni ranks and beyond shared their work experiences and campus memories with current Taylor communications students during the recent Pursuing Excellence: Expectations for Self professional seminar, which was sponsored by Taylor’s Communications Department.

The presenters included Erik Christianson, NCAA Managing Director of External Affairs; Kelly Piva, Event Manager for SmithBucklin; and Heather Thompson Day, conference speaker, college professor and author.

The presentations ranged from creating culture in the workplace, effective communication, and succeeding in the digital age to personal and professional goal setting.

The guest list also included three Taylor alumni whose presentation was titled, “What I know now that wish I knew then.” They included Tim Riethmiller ’13, the lead designer for the Indianapolis Star; Corrie (Dyke ’13) Riethmiller, the consumer engagement manager at Gannett/USA TODAY NETWORK; and Katie Long ’13, a children’s librarian and an editorial assistant and communication coordinator for Wesleyan Publishing House.

“Overall I liked the wisdom shared, and it was cool to see examples of communications alumni doing well outside of Taylor,” said Hope Bolinger, an Echo staff member and professional writing student at Taylor.
