Why I Came to Taylor:
I have had one lifelong objective since I became a follower of Jesus Christ as a sophomore at the University of Michigan: to produce the greatest number of multiplying disciples to reach the world for Christ. At Taylor I do that by teaching New Testament, theology (i.e., thoughts about God), and Koiné Greek, the language spoken by the average person on the first-century street. And that’s the language used to pass on the words and deeds of the greatest person in the history of humanity, Jesus of Nazareth, the Son of God. At least five of my former Greek students are now Bible translators with Wycliffe. Though a difficult language to learn, I think my students would say that I make Greek fun and that our classroom learns so much more than a language.
Why I Enjoy Teaching at Taylor:
I love teaching at Taylor because I’ve found a “discipleship environment” here--a spiritual, academic, social, athletic, and residence life matrix that comprehensively impacts students with the most life-changing, satisfying, source of truth known to humanity. As a college student on a secular campus, I changed my major four times before committing my life to Jesus Christ, and then once after that! John 8:31-32 became my life verse: Jesus said, “‘If you continue to follow my teaching, you are really my disciples and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free’” (NET). I want to see students set free as I teach them how to think Christianly, to interpret and apply God’s word correctly, and to depend on the power of the Holy Spirit to live the fullness of kingdom life modeled by Jesus and his disciples on the pages of the New Testament. I’m energized by relationships with students both inside and outside the classroom. I enjoy watching them compete in athletic events, act in plays, serve in community and international ministries, perform in choral and orchestral groups, and entertain the campus at Air Band, My Generation and Nostalgia Nights.
