Business Plan Competition Winners Named

The 2006 Taylor University Business Plan is complete.  Eight judges heard three hours of quality presentations from the finalists and had an opportunity to grill contestants regarding their business concepts.  In general, the judges considered innovation, immediate and long-term impact, and the potential to generate college level jobs in Indiana.

The winners of the 2006 Taylor University Business Plan Competition are:

  • 1st Place: Smitty's Gas City Truck Wash (J. Michael Smithson)
  • 2nd Place: Tiergan Technologies (Troy Tomasik)
  • 3rd Place: Higher Sites (Helen Kibby and Elizabeth Thompson)

Each winner received an engraved plaque designating their placement as well as $8,000, and $3,000, and $1,000 for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place respectively.  Tiergan Technologies was also named Best Undergraduate entry thereby earning another $1,000.  Everyone associated with the competition is looking forward to each company's impact on the local community and Indiana.

All in all, the competition objectives of identifying local entrepreneurs, spurring the entrepreneurial spirit within the region, and drawing the community together in this endeavor were realized.  Everyone at Taylor is looking forward with great anticipation to the 2007 Business Plan Competition.
