Wengatz Hall

Wengatz is the largest men's residence hall on campus, housing 285 men.Wengatz

Like Olson, Wengatz is traditionally arranged with student rooms, both double and triple, lining a central corridor.

Student rooms are carpeted and the furniture is stackable, which affords students the opportunity to be creative with room layouts.

Each student is provided with the following:

  • a bed
  • a dresser
  • desk
  • chair
  • bookcase
  • wardrobe

The first floor has a social lounge, as well as a recreation area. In addition to the main lounge, study lounges are located on each wing.

Wengatz is located on the south side of campus to the west of Olson Hall and across the street from Gerig Hall. Wengatz does not have an elevator and is not an air-conditioned facility.

Jon Cavanagh, Wengatz Hall DirectorJon Cavanagh

I am Jon Cavanagh, and I am the Hall Director in Wengatz Hall.  After beginning my college education in my hometown of Bowling Green, Ohio at Bowling Green State University, I transferred to Taylor and completed my degree in Christian Education in 1998.  While at Taylor I had the opportunity to live in Wengatz and serve as a Personnel Assistant.  I was the first Assistant Hall Director in the new Morris Hall and continued my career in residence life as a Resident Director at Northwestern College (Orange City, IA) and Asbury College (Wilmore, KY).  For three years I had the opportunity to serve as the Associate Pastor at my home church, Plain Congregational Church in Bowling Green, Ohio, while completing my Master of Divinity.  My wife, Kara, and I have been married since 2002.

Chris and I, along with fourteen Personnel Assistants, are here to lead and help shape the men of Wengatz Hall.  There are very few opportunities to live in close community with other Christian men, and we desire for the men of Wengatz to make the most of it.  I desire that these men grow to love where they live for the right reasons, and that when they look back at their time in Wengatz Hall, they will see how God has used the community of Wengatz to shape their lives and impact eternity for His glory.  Because we all have our rough edges, community may be challenging from time to time, but we desire to honor Christ as we learn about ourselves, each other and prepare for the world beyond Taylor University.  I believe that God has called all of us into service for Him, and I am excited to see how the community of Wengatz can help define that call for all of the men (and one woman) who call Wengatz "Home."

Chris Kirk, Wengatz Assistant Hall DirectorChris Kirk

My name is Chris Kirk, and I serve as the Wengatz Assistant Hall Director. I am from Las Vegas, Nevada and made my way to the Midwest in 2004 to begin my undergraduate degree here at Taylor. I graduated with a B.A. in Philosophy in May of 2008. During my time here, I lived in Morris Hall and then was given the opportunity to serve as a PA in Bergwall Hall. After graduating, I moved back to Las Vegas and worked in both the foreclosure and litigation department of a law firm. This past April, I decided to continue my education by pursuing a Masters in Higher Education and Student Development at Taylor. I am very excited to be back in Taylor's community as we strive to grow and mature as followers of Christ and as we prepare ourselves for wherever God places us after our time here.
