Wengatz Hall

Image of Wengatz Hall roomWengatz is the largest men's residence hall on campus, housing 285 men.

Like Olson, Wengatz is traditionally arranged with student rooms, both double and triple, lining a central corridor.

Student rooms are carpeted and the furniture is stackable, which affords students the opportunity to be creative with room layouts.  Each student is provide with:

  • a bed
  • a dresser
  • desk
  • chair
  • bookcase
  • wardrobe

The first floor has a social lounge as well as a recreation area. In addition to the main lounge, study lounges are located on each wing.

Wengatz is located on the south side of campus next to Olson Hall and across the street from Gerig Hall. Wengatz does not have an elevator and is not an air-conditioned facility.

Jon Cavanagh, Wengatz Hall DirectorJon Cavanagh

I am Jon Cavanagh and I am the Hall Director in Wengatz Hall.  After beginning my college education in my hometown of Bowling Green, Ohio at Bowling Green State University, I transferred to Taylor and completed my degree in Christian Education in 1998.  While at Taylor I had the opportunity to live in Wengatz and serve as a Personnel Assistant.  I was the first Assistant Hall Director in the new Morris Hall and continued my career in residence life as a Resident Director at Northwestern College (Orange City, IA) and Asbury College (Wilmore, KY).  These last three years I have had the opportunity to serve as the Associate Pastor at my home church, Plain Congregational Church in Bowling Green, Ohio while I have been completing my Masters of Divinity.  My wife, Kara, and I have been married since 2002.

Travis and I, along with fourteen other Personnel Assistants, are here to lead and help shape the men of Wengatz Hall.  There are very few opportunities to live in close community with other Christian men, and we desire for the men of Wengatz to make the most of it.  I desire that these men grow to love where they live for the right reasons, and that when they look back at their time in Wengatz Hall, they will see how God has used the community of Wengatz to shape their lives and impact eternity for His glory.  Because we all have our rough edges, community may be challenging from time to time, but we desire to honor Christ as we learn about ourselves, each other and prepare for the world beyond Taylor University.  I believe that God has called all of us into service for Him, and I am excited to see how the community of Wengatz can help define that call for all of the men (and one woman) that call Wengatz home.

Travis Yoder, Wengatz Assistant Hall Director

Travis YoderMy name is Travis Yoder and I am the Wengatz Assistant Hall Director.  I am a 2005 Taylor grad with a degree in Sociology and Psychology.  I hail from Warsaw, IN where I was born and raised all of my life.  My parents still live there and my younger sister is a 2007 Taylor grad.  I have also been involved in the Career Development office, the 'Escape To Reality' course, as well as working at 'The Jumping Bean' (the campus coffee shop).

I am very excited about the opportunity to continue my experience with Residence Life.  As a student, I spent three years as a Personnel Assistant I appreciated that experience so much that I am now pursuing an MA in Higher Ed. & Student Development.  My aspirations in this role are to learn as much as I can about Residence Life from the professionals around me who have so much experience and to build intentional relationships with the men of Wengatz Hall in the hope that I can play a role in the whole-person education taking place in their time at Taylor.

A little about me:  I love sports of all kinds (baseball, football, dodgeball, etc.), good movies, road trips, the Chicago Cubs, Notre Dame football, and coffee.
