Gerig Hall
Gerig Hall houses 96 men and women, and its size is a distinctly positive aspect of its identity. Because it is small, an atmosphere of community and family develops quickly among the 32 men and 64 women residents.
Gerig is also a common lounge hall constructed in an open suite configuration. Each floor contains four living areas that are surrounded by three to four rooms. A kitchen, TV lounge, conference room and main lounge are located on the first floor.
Rooms are furnished with stackable furniture that can be configured in a variety of ways to maximize space. Floor coverings are tile, and many students bring their own carpeting. Each student is provided with the following:
- a bed
- dresser
- desk
- chair
- bookcase
- closet space
Gerig Hall is located on the south side of campus between English Hall and Taylor Lake. The building does not have an elevator or air conditioning.
"Because of the size of the dorm, living in Gerig Hall is like living with a new family tree. Your suite becomes your immediate family, your floor becomes your closest cousins, and the entire hall becomes like second cousins. I appreciate the comfortability we have with each other, as well as the accountability. I am very grateful for the four years I have been able to spend in Gerig." - Emily Brown, senior
Jane Bowser, Gerig Hall Director
My name is Jane Bowser. My husband Brad, daughter Kendal, son Jared and I are excited to be a part of Gerig Hall. I believe we are the first family to serve in the hall director role in Gerig, which is a joy and a privilege for us!
I am a graduate of Taylor University with degrees in Christian Ed and Art Ed. After teaching in public schools for a few years, the Lord brought me back to Taylor as a hall director. It was a position I had never previously considered, but immediately fell in love with! Then as true love connections go, my supervisor and her counterpart at Anderson University were good friends and avid matchmakers. They knew a certain male hall director at Anderson and thought he and I would be a good match! So I met and married Brad Bowser, and we believe our marriage is the merger of our two schools!
Brad and I have a passion for Christian higher education, and the Lord has used and blessed us while we have served at Anderson, Taylor, and LeTourneau universities. I was serving as the director of orientation at Taylor, when the Lord brought us into the high calling of parenthood. I retired from higher ed to be a stay-at-home-mom. During these years and with the addition of another child, I received a phone call from a former LeTourneau colleague who said he was looking for a temporary, part-time coordinator of summer orientation. So, once again, my fondness for working with college students began to rekindle. There was then an opportunity to return to Taylor, and the Lord brought us back to the Heartland!
Brad, Kendal, Jared and I are thrilled to become a part of the Gerig Hall family! We are eager to experience what God has for us in the significant role of walking alongside students and colleagues.
