English Hall
English hall was built in a closed suite configuration with three to five student rooms connecting to a common living/study area.
The suites contribute to a smaller homier atmosphere and also afford students additional living space outside their residence hall rooms.
Floor coverings in the residence hall rooms are tile and furnishings include:
- a bed
- dresser
- chest
- desk
- desk chair
- bookcase
- closet space
English houses 232 women on four floors and does not have an elevator. Located on the south side of campus, English is in between Haakonsen Hall and Gerig Hall.
"Living in a suite is like living in a house with seven women. There are fun times, there are hard times, but overall, you leave the experience knowing that you are better because of it. You are able to have close personal relationships with these incredible women who inspire you, challenge you and encourage you to become a stronger woman of God." - Katrina Hershberger '05
Julie Engelsman, English and Haakenson Hall Director
My name is Julie Engelsman and I serve as the English and Haakenson Hall Residence Hall Director. I am originally from Hudsonville, Michigan, which is only twenty minutes from beautiful Lake Michigan, a place that is near and dear to my heart. I came to Taylor in August 2006, after graduating from Geneva College in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania with my Master of Arts in Higher Education in May 2003. I received my Bachelors of Science degree in Youth Ministry from Cornerstone University in Grand Rapids, Michigan in May 2003. I believe that Cornerstone is where I discovered my passion for discipling and educating college students. In addition to discipleship, I enjoy hiking, swimming, listening to music, photography, and great conversations filled with laughter.

Kerrie Schene, English and Haakonsen Assistant Hall Director
My name is Kerrie Schene and I am the Assistant Hall Director to English/Haakonsen Hall. I earned a BA in Christian Education Ministries from Taylor in August 2007 and feel honored and blessed to remain in this community for another year! My time at Taylor has played a large role in who I am today, whether it be the influence of professors, friends, mentors or a variety of campus events and ministries. After four years of living on campus in English Hall, it is exciting to be on the other side of things as hall director. I am passionate about having quality conversations with students that might help them further understand who they are and who Christ desires them to become. In my free time, I enjoy most outdoor activities (especially frisbee golf), reading a good book and of course, coffee dates. Some interests of mine include counseling, running, warm climate cultures, documentaries, spiritual disciplines, travel and trying new food. When I'm not around English/Haakonsen Hall, I can be found working in University Relations as Assistant to Print and Online Communication.
