2010 Projects
Carpenter’s Hands – Grand Bahama Island
Carpenter’s Hands will be traveling to Freeport, Grand Bahama this spring, helping to build a multipurpose room for Freeport Gospel Chapel. This room is much needed and will be used in many ways by the church. This team will also be serving and helping the community in other ways, although construction is the main focus. Devotions and worship on the beach will also be part of the experience each evening. No construction experience required, just a heart to work hard to serve God, and a good attitude.
Daytona Beach
Daytona Beach is one of the most popular Spring Break destinations in the US, especially among college students and young adults. Here, you will spend your days on the beach, at a community park right off the beach, and in and out of various low income and homeless centers in the area. Through simply playing volleyball, offering a beverage, and just hanging out, you will have the opportunity to build relationships and discuss Christ and the hope HE is to you with hundreds of people from all walks of life.
Dearborn, Michigan – Muslim Outreach
We are working with an organization that reaches out to the surrounding Arab Muslim population. This trip will give you the opportunity to learn about Islam and Middle Eastern culture in a uniquely hands-on immersion setting within the heart of the community, through group settings and personal, one-to-one encounters and relationships. If you go on this trip, you will assist the organization in their various programs such as English (ESL) classes, childcare, sewing classes, Computer classes, after-school tutoring, work projects, and interacting one-on-one with Arab Muslims.
Dominican Republic – Students International
Students International has a unique focus on providing challenging cross-cultural experiences, specifically for students, through occupational ministry opportunities. While staying at their base in Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic, you will have the opportunity to serve in a variety of settings at various locations nearby, using your specific passions and skills. Ministry site focuses include art, education, construction, drama, music, puppetry, and sports, among others.
El Salvador – World Gospel Mission
This trip will be working with missionaries David and Debbie Hawk in the town of Jucuapa. The type of ministry done on this trip will range from construction work on the new medical clinic, running ministry programs for children in schools, and also working with the Hawk's church in doing drama, puppet, and music presentations.
Grant County
Who is my neighbor? Are they down the hall? Are they across the globe? Are they 14 miles from me? For the first time ever, Taylor University is sending a group of students to Grant County. Stationed in Marion, IN, the team will learn of the spiritual, emotional, and physical needs of our literal neighbors. Anticipated activities include volunteering in local ministries, completing house projects for local families, devotionals lead by community members, and panels on relevant topics to Marion (such as reconciliation practices, sustainable living, and community development). We desire for our eyes to be opened, and for us to see Grant County as Christ does.
SIFE - Business as Missions – Partners Worldwide
This Business as Missions project will serve with Partners Worldwide and most likely be traveling to a Central American country, where you will be helping businesspeople grow their businesses and help increase economic development. You will learn about the business culture of your host country and provide the people with the training they need to help their businesses. This trip is specifically designed for business majors, but if you have a specific interest in business please contact Professor Kim Miller for further information.
Northern Ireland – Project Evangelism - Gospel Choir
The Gospel Choir will be partnering with Project Evangelism in Dundrum and Newcastle, Northern Ireland. Ministry opportunities will include working in local schools and after-school programs as well as with local shelters for homeless and underprivileged. The choir will also evangelize through song and liturgical dance in local church services.
Poland
Students going to Poland will partner with Dave and Sandy Hatfield who work with Global Missionary Ministries. After serving the Lord in pastoral ministries for thirty years and leading several short term mission trips, Dave is very excited about bringing a Taylor team to Poland. The first part of the week will serve as an opportunity to teach English at Graceland Centrum English School in the evenings as well as assist a church plant during the day in Krakow. Later in the week the team will travel to Plock to assist an orphanage with evening activities, and then end the week with a work project at a camp in Ostrada.
Russia – Boaz Project
Over 750,000 children crowd orphanages across Russia. The Boaz Project's mission is geared directly toward the nurturing of Christ's love in these children's lives. Your team will work hand in hand with the Boaz Project in the Vladimir region of Russia, conducting Vacation Bible Schools and building relationships with orphans through crafts, games, music and more.
