The Charles Simeon Sermons - CANCELLED

R. Kent Hughes

2009 Sermon Series - The Providence of God: A Truth for Today

The 2009 Simeon Sermon Series has been cancelled due to a loss in Dr. R. Kent Hughes's family.

Gratefully, two excellent Bible teachers agreed to fill the chapel pulpit for Dr. Hughes this week.  On Monday, we enjoyed the preaching ministry of Doug O'Donnell, senior pastor of New Covenant Church, that meets on the campus of North Central College in Naperville, IL.

On Wednesday, October 28, David Helm, Senior Pastor of Holy Trinity Church in the Hyde Park neighborhood of Chicago, will be speaking.  David regularly preaches throughout North America and is the author of the 1 & 2 Peter; Jude commentary in the Preaching the Word series.  He is also the author of The Genesis Factor with Jon Dennis and The Big Picture Story Bible, all with Crossway Books.

Randy Gruendyke on Prime Time America

Randy Gruendyke

Randall (Randy) Gruendyke has been the campus pastor at Taylor University since 2002, overseeing the campus chapel and discipleship programs along with his other broad range of pastoral duties.  Randy is in his 24th year of pastoral ministry, and prior to service at Taylor he was part of the pastoral team at College Church in Wheaton, Illinois.  Randy and his wife, Nancy, have three daughters and live in Upland, Indiana.

Randy will be talking to PrimeTime America on October 21st about the Charles Simeon Sermon Series taking place at Taylor University on October 26-28, with speaker Dr. R. Kent Hughes.  As this year marks the 250th birthday of Charles Simeon, Randy is also promoting the book, "Charles Simeon: Pastor of a Generation" by Handley Moule, as an excellent introduction to his life and legacy.

Please visit the Prime Time America website to listen to either the entire broadcast, or Randy's segment (click part 1 and drag the cursor to the 9:23 mark).

Please visit the Bookstore to purchase a copy of Charles Simeon: Pastor of a Generation by Handley Moule.

About Charles Simeon

Image of Charles Simeon

Charles Simeon (1759-1836) served as pastor of Holy Trinity Church, Cambridge, England, for 54 years.  He was an exacting and compelling Bible expositor whose rich reputation extends to the present day.  Simeon was known for believing in and relying upon the power of God's Word preached.  In fact, one scholar writes that Simeon was the first person since the Middle Ages who believed that one could actually teach someone how to preach.

Simeon's 21 volume, Horae Homiletica, is a collection of expanded sermon outlines covering all 66 books of the Bible.  The series is aimed at modeling and teaching Bible exposition to both the preaching pastor and student of Scripture and, as such, beats in time with this series named in his honor.

Simeon's legacy also lives on in churches throughout the UK and around the world.  In England, it is the foundation upon which the University and College Christian Fellowship is built, as well as the Church Missionary Society.  In the United States, Charles Simeon is regarded as the father of Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship.
