Interviewing Guidelines for Candidates
Students are encouraged to take advantage of on-campus interviewing opportunities and expected to adhere to the following guidelines.
Because many organizations base their recruiting efforts on previous interviewing experience, it is important for candidates to present themselves in an appropriate manner during the interview process. Professional interviewing skills and attire are expected.
Questions regarding the process should be directed to the career development center.
- Interview schedules for each organization will be available for students to sign up one month in advance of the actual interview date.
- Candidates should sign up for interviews only when genuinely interested in the position.
Practice interviewing is unethical because it takes advantage of the recruiters' time and limits interviewing opportunities for other candidates. Those interested in practicing their interviewing skills are encouraged to contact the career development center to set up times for simulated interviews.
- Candidates should adequately prepare for the recruiting process and accurately represent their qualifications.
Candidates are responsible for reading all available informational materials the employer provides and completing any required forms prior to the interview. Falsifying data, such as grade-point average, is unethical and may be grounds for dismissal if the candidate is hired by the employer. Interview appointments must be made with the career development center at least one week prior to the interview to ensure the candidate has made necessary preparations.
- Resumes must be approved by the career development center before submitting them for the interview.
Candidates are required to submit resumes seven working days prior to the interview.
- Candidates must notify the career development center at least 24 hours prior to the appointment to cancel an interview.
Because time is valuable to employers, candidates must make every effort to keep scheduled appointments. Missed interviews or habitual tardiness may result in removal from the interviewing program.
- Candidates are responsible for notifying an organization of their acceptance or rejection of offers.
As soon as they make their final decisions, candidates are expected to accept or reject all other offers in writing.
- Candidates are expected to withdraw from the interviewing process once they have accepted a position.
