H1N1 Flu Clinic on Nov. 16
The Grant County Health Department will be offering the H1N1 flu mist to the Taylor students again on Monday, November 16 from 5:30 PM to 7:00PM in the lobby of the Dining Commons. They will also be bringing a limited number of H1N1 injections for high risk students.
Flu mist is safe for people 2 to 49 years of age who are not pregnant or do not have a chronic illness. If you have received the seasonal flu mist in the last 30 days you should wait until 30 days to receive the H1N1 flu mist. If you have received the seasonal flu shot it is ok to receive the H1N1 flu mist.
The flu mist is a live vaccine that is safe for people who qualify for it. After receiving the flu mist your body will start producing protection against the H1N1 virus.
Influenza Planning, Precautions at Taylor University
October 30, 2009
The CDC stopped testing last summer for H1N1 - instead relying on the assumption that if a person is ill with Influenza A prior to the start of the recognized flu season, it is probably H1N1. Taylor University officials say more than 30 students have been treated for Influenza A and were either isolated or chose to recuperate at home.
. . . . . . . . . . . .
Since H1N1 became an increasing concern, Taylor University officials have closely monitored developments related to the H1N1 virus and have been at work crafting logistical response and communications plans should the virus come to our campus.
Throughout this process, we have consulted Dr. Gregory Poland a former Taylor parent and expert on infectious diseases, and local health officials. We have also monitored Centers for Disease Control and World Health Organization H1N1 announcements and studied the responses of other universities where H1N1 has been found.
Our goals are threefold: first, the wellbeing of every member of the Taylor University community is our first and highest priority. Second, it is our desire to approach this situation with thought, reason and preparedness. Third, the overarching aim of everything we do at Taylor is to bring glory and honor to God - this situation is no different.
We have gathered information which we hope will prove beneficial to you and all of us within the Taylor community. We will also make announcements to the campus community via this Web site and with e-mail announcements.
