April 11, 2009

Junior Andrea Elsman won the pole vault and finished second in the triple jump to lead the women's track and field team to an 8th place finish at the 104th Indiana Intercollegiate Championships.

Elsman, a junior, cleared 11' in the vault and won by having fewer misses in the competition. In the triple jump, she also took a close decision as her second best jump was farther that her competitor. Elsman jumped 35'1".

Alyssa Johnson captured second place in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:43.25, an automatic qualifying time for the NAIA Championships. It marked only her second outing of the outdoor season.

Morgan Achterhoff had a busy day, placing fifth in the 400 meter dash in 1:00.32, eighth in the long jump (16'4"), and being a part of two scoring relay quartets.

Achterhoff was joined by LaJoya Smith, Stephanie Cassie Vaflor and Christine Williams to place seventh in 51.88.

Next week the Lady Trojans will compete in the Manchester Invitational.
