Top Team Tops Trojans Again
October 10, 2009
The Taylor University women's soccer team dropped its fourth consecutive match to a top four team in the Mid-Central College Conference. Marian, who is receiving votes in the national polls and is unbeaten on the year, topped the Trojans 3-0.
Taylor falls to 4-8-1 on the season and 0-4 in conference play. All four conference games have come against the top half of the MCC including the 11th-ranked team in the NAIA and two others who are receiving votes in the polls.
The Knights took control early outshooting the Trojans 5-1 before connecting on their sixth attempt in the 29th minute for a 1-0 lead.
The Trojans matched Marian's effort for the balance of the half but were unable to connect for a goal and trailed 1-0 at the break.
The second half was all in Marian's favor as they held Taylor to just one shot attempt. In the 20th minute of the second stanza the Knights extended their lead to 2-0 on a goal by Jackie Smith.
The third goal came in the final minute of action on a penalty kick.
Five different Trojans contributed to the five total team shots.
Shawna Lane recorded 10 saves in a 90-minute effort.
Taylor will look to snap the losing streak on Tuesday when it plays host to Bethel College at 4 p.m. The Pilots are 4-6-1 (1-2-1 MCC) on the season.
