Top of League Causing Woes for Trojans
October 07, 2009
In its third consecutive match against one of the top four teams in the Mid-Central College Conference, the Taylor University women's soccer team fell to Grace College by the score of 1-0.
The third straight loss drops the Trojans to 4-7-1 on the season and 0-3 in league action.
Taylor controlled much of the game outshooting the Lancers 18-11, but it was the Lancers that found the back of the net. Sara Morgan recorded the only counter of the afternoon in the 34th minute off an assist from Amy Abbitt.
"The bottom line is we have to put the ball in the net," head coach Scott Stan said. "It doesn't matter if we control the game if we can't score."
A trio of Trojans contributed four shot attempts on the afternoon led by Emily Von Raesfeld's and Marrisa Ku's four combined shots on goal.
It was the Trojans' second match without leading scorer Cara Andjelich who is out due to injury.
The schedule doesn't get any easier for the Trojans as they travel to Marian University on Saturday. The unbeaten Knights are 2-0 in conference play and receiving votes in the NAIA Coaches' Top 25. That game starts at 7:30 p.m.
