Lady Trojans Win Final Non-Conference Tilt
September 26, 2009
The Taylor University women's soccer team was victorious in its final non-conference match of the regular season defeating Cincinnati Christian University 2-0. Taylor improves to 4-4-1 on the season.
Cara Andjelich's goal in the 51st minute of action snapped a 293-minute scoreless streak for the Trojans dating back to September 16.
"It's nice to break that streak heading into conference play," head coach Scott Stan said. "We're going to need the offense when we play the likes of Indiana Wesleyan and Spring Arbor."
IWU is ranked No. 12 in the latest NAIA Women's Soccer Coaches' Top 25 while conference foes Spring Arbor and Marian are each receiving votes.
Taylor dominated the majority of the match outshooting the Eagles 22-7 and allowing just three shot attempts in the first 87 minutes.
It took the Trojans 14 attempts before Andjelich connected on her fifth shot of the afternoon off an assist from Allison Guion.
Guion's header in the 82nd minute assisted Andjelich for her second goal of the game and team-leading sixth of the season. Guion leads the team with four assists on the year.
The goal put the Trojans ahead 2-0 but the Eagles did not go down without a fight. CCU posted four shot attempts in the final 2:14 but was denied any reward for its efforts.
Goalkeeper Shawna Lane recorded three saves including two in the final minutes of her third shutout of the season. The senior leads the Mid-Central College Conference with 51 saves.
Taylor plays host to No. 12 Indiana Wesleyan on Tuesday at 4 p.m. followed by a trip to Spring Arbor four days later.
