OT Win First of Season for Women's Soccer

September 05, 2009

The Taylor University women's soccer team scored its first win of the season Saturday, defeating Illinois Tech 1-0 in overtime. The win improves the Trojans' record to 1-2.

Freshman Cara Andjelich netted her first collegiate goal in the ninth minute of the first overtime to give the Trojans the win. Melanie Hall assisted on the play.

The goal was also the team's first of the season as the Trojans were shut out in two games last week at the Cedarville Invitational.

"It is a good victory for our program and for our girls," head coach Scott Stan said. "They beat [MCC conference foes] Huntington and Saint Francis last week."

Illinois Tech drops to 3-2 on the season.

Senior Allie Guion led Taylor's offensive attack with four shots on goal. Shawna Lane recorded eight saves in the net for Taylor.

Taylor is back in action on Friday, Sept. 11 when they play host to Asbury College at 4 p.m. Asbury is currently receiving votes in the NAIA national polls.
