Volleyball Rolls with 3-0 Win at Grace

The No. 23 Taylor volleyball team won its 17th straight Mid-Central College Conference regular season match Wednesday evening with a 3-0 (25-15, 29-27, 25-11) victory at Grace College.
With the win, the Trojans improved to 16-3 overall and 5-0 in the MCC. The Lancers fell to 5-15 and 1-4 in league play.
The Trojans breezed to a 25-15 first set win, but were tested right down to the end of set two before finally pulling out a 29-27 victory. Taylor then closed out the match with an impressive 25-11 win in set three.
Junior outside hitter Jackie Geile collected 12 kills for her eighth double figure kill tally of the season.
Setter Betsy Brown directed the offense by dishing out 29 assists. The sophomore established a new career high with two block solos to combine with three block assists in the match. From the service line, Brown matched a career high with three aces.
Freshman defensive specialist Hope Knowling anchored the back row for Taylor with 11 digs.
The match turned sloppy at times, as the two teams combined for 18 service errors. Taylor recorded ten miscues from behind the service line, while Grace committed eight.
Taylor had 33 kills for a .272 attack percentage, compared to 28 kills for the Lancers, who hit at an .037 clip against Taylor's ten team blocks.
Taylor will stay close to home this weekend with a trip to the IWU Invitational in Marion, Ind. The Trojans get started on Friday with a 2 p.m. matchup versus McKendree University.
