Offense Dominates in 3-0 Win Over Cougars

September 26, 2009

The No. 24 Taylor volleyball team closed out its weekend at the USF Best of the Best Challenge with a dominant offensive performance in a 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-17) win over the host Saint Francis Cougars.

Taylor (13-3) finished the weekend with a 3-1 record with the only loss coming on Friday to 14th-ranked Olivet Nazarene.

Averaging just over 12 kills per set this season, Taylor far exceeded that number with 46 kills against the Cougars. The Trojans finished the match with a hitting efficiency of .311.

A trio of sophomores led the offense for head coach Brittany Smith's club. Outside hitter Kelsey Pritchard hammered 13 kills to bring her season total to 239. Bethany Beck recorded 10 kills, while Betsy Brown directed the offense to the tune of 35 assists and four kills.

On the defensive end, senior Molly Larkin led the team with 10 digs. Beck recorded Taylor's only two solo blocks.

Pritchard was named to the Best of the Best All-Tournament Team after collecting 56 kills for a .261 hitting percentage over the weekend.

Taylor will host Indiana Wesleyan on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at 7 p.m. in Odle Arena.
