Nelis Leads No. 24 Trojans to 3-1 Win

The No. 24 Taylor volleyball team improved its record to 13-3 Saturday after defeating Trinity International University 3-1 (23-25, 25-19, 25-16, 25-10) on day two of the USF Best of the Best Challenge in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Taylor has one match remaining this weekend against Saint Francis at 3 p.m. today.

Taylor received a career-high 15 kills from senior Colleen Nelis, who hit at a clip of .520 in the match. The middle blocker from Grand Haven, Mich., also collected a match-best four blocks.

After recording just seven kills in the opening set and dropping the opener 25-23, the Taylor offense heated up in the final three sets.

Over the final three sets Taylor recorded a hitting percentage of .348, highlighted by 16 kills and just two errors on 27 attempts (.519) in a 25-16 third set victory.

Leading 14-10 in the final set, defensive specialist Molly Larkin reeled off 11 straight service points to seal the Taylor victory. Larkin finished with three aces.

Kelsey Pritchard collected 15 kills for her sixth straight match with double figure kill totals. Betsy Brown dished out 40 assists to lead a Taylor offense that hit at .264 for the match. The Trojans defense was led by Courtney Herschberger, who collected 19 digs.
