Taylor Softball Tripped up on the Road
March 17, 2009
Taylor softball ran into a roadblock on Tuesday, falling to Purdue North Central 7-4 and 5-2 in Westville, Indiana.
The Panthers, who had just returned from a 15-game spring break trip, came in prepared for the Lady Trojans. Taylor was looking to build upon their 4-4 record but could not get enough for the win.
In game one senior Jill Tomaszewski took the mound recording four strikeouts. The Purdue North Central offense was on task as they pounded out 7 runs to put the pressure on the Trojans. Taylor's offense showed signs of life as they pounded out multiple extra base hits and four runs.
Leading the way for the TU offense were Lindsey Arnold, Laura Strode and Lindsey Stone. Arnold led the way with three hits on the day, while Strode pounded the base paths, recording a double and a triple. Stone chipped in with two hits. Ultimately the Panthers offense and Taylor's errors in the field led to the loss for TU in game one.
Coming into game two, Taylor looked to right the ship, but the Panthers were again up to the challenge, winning 5-2 against junior Jessica Fankhauser.
Again three Lady Trojans recorded multiple hits. This time freshman Alyssa Brodbeck added two hits, along with sophomore Emily Kramer and junior Liz Lewellen.
Purdue North Central raised their season record to 10-7 on the year. Taylor moves to 4-6 with the conference opening series at Goshen College (3-7) coming up on Thursday. First pitch is set for 3 p.m.
The Lady Trojans take off for Tucson, Arizona on Friday for a week long spring break tournament totaling 10 games against teams from all over the nation. Stay up-to-date with the TU softball team here at taylor.edu/athletics.
