Trojans Sweep MCC Awards for 4th Time
10.26.2009
For the fourth time this season a trio of Taylor volleyball players swept the weekly Mid-Central College Conference volleyball awards. Kelsey Pritchard was named Player of the Week, Betsy Brown was tabbed the league's top setter, and Courtney Herschberger was the Libero of the Week.
Taylor (26-4, 6-0 MCC), ranked No. 20 in the NAIA polls, started its perfect 5-0 week with a 3-2 win over Spring Arbor to clinch the Trojans' third straight MCC regular season championship. Over the weekend Taylor went on to defeat No. 18 Madonna (Mich.) for the Crusader Classic championship in Livonia, Mich.
Pritchard (Indianapolis, Ind./Brownsburg), a sophomore, had a career high 33 kills for a .467 hitting percentage in the win over Madonna on her way to being named to the Crusader Classic All-Tournament Team.
Brown (Adrian, Mich./Lenawee Christian), a sophomore, was named the Most Outstanding Player at the Crusader Classic after putting up 169 assists in four matches. This is Brown's 11th career MCC Setter of the Week honor.
Herschberger (Goshen, Ind./Fairfield), a freshman, received her seventh MCC Libero of the Week award after posting 80 digs in Taylor's five matches last week. In that number was a 22-dig performance against Madonna--just one shy of Herschberger's career best.
Taylor returns home to host Huntington Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
