Three Volleyball Trojans Honored by MCC

10.12.2009

Three Taylor University volleyball players have been recognized as the top performers in the Mid-Central College Conference at their respective positions following a perfect 5-0 week for the No. 23 Trojans, the league announced Monday.

Kelsey Pritchard was named the Player of the Week, Betsy Brown received Setter of the Week honors, and Courtney Herschberger was the league's Libero of the Week.

The trio helped lead the Trojans to their 20th win of the season as they captured the Indiana Wesleyan Invitational championship over the weekend.

Pritchard (Indianapolis, Ind.) earned her third weekly award after pounding 66 kills in five matches, including a 22-kill performance against Davenport (Mich.) University on Saturday. Her three block assists versus Saint Xavier (Ill.) University were a season best. The sophomore from Indianapolis currently ranks seventh in the nation with 4.2 kills per set.

Brown (Adrian, Mich.) was honored by the MCC for the fourth time this season after running a Taylor offense that hit a .294 clip for the week. The sophomore posted her best all-around week of the season with 166 assists, 12 kills, 41 digs, 9 aces, and 13 blocks. Her five blocks against Grace (Ind.) College matched a career high. With 10.3 assists per set, Brown is ranked 19th in the nation.

Herschberger (Goshen, Ind.), a freshman, earns her fifth MCC Libero of the Week honor after a one week layoff in which her sister Kelsey Herschberger, a junior at Goshen College, won the award a week ago. The younger Herschberger anchored the Trojans defense with 75 total digs during the week, including an average of 5.2 digs per set in four weekend matches.

Monday's honors mark the third time this season that Taylor has swept all three weekly MCC volleyball awards.

Taylor (20-3, 5-0 MCC) will travel to University of Indianapolis (22-1) on Tuesday, Oct. 13 at 7 p.m. The Greyhounds are ranked No. 12 in the latest NCAA Div. II Top 25 Poll.
