Darby Hired as Assistant Tennis Coach

09.25.2009

The Taylor University athletic department has announced the hiring of Bob Darby as assistant tennis coach for the men's and women's programs. Darby will assist Dara Syswerda, women's head coach, and Don Taylor, men's head coach.

Following four years of varsity tennis at Delta High School in Muncie, Ind., including three years as the number one singles player, Darby played one season at Purdue before shoulder surgery ended his collegiate playing career.

Darby has taught tennis to people of all ages from pre-schoolers to adults, and continues to play doubles in USTA League Tennis.

His excitement in his new role readily shows. "Coaching the men and women at Taylor University has been a dream come true for me," Darby said. "I am very impressed with how both teams have shown the love of Christ on and off the tennis court, always putting integrity before winning a point in a tennis match. That is a great testament to the coaching and leadership of both Dara Syswerda and Don Taylor, and also to each player's parents. I pray that I too, can have a positive impact on these young players' lives."

Darby is married to Stephanie (Dunn), a 2001 alum of Taylor University who played tennis for Syswerda while at Taylor. The couple has two children and live in Muncie.
