Trojans 2nd at DePauw Invitational
April 04, 2009
Victories by Tom Robertson and Scott Gill were backed up by five runner-up performances to key the Trojans' 2nd place finish at the 11-team DePauw Invitational.
Robertson and Michael Pabody got the day off to a strong start with a 1-2 finish in the 2000-meter steeplechase. Robertson closed with his second best performance of the year in 9:38.29, while Pabody crossed the finish line in 9:59.21.
Gill claimed first place in the long jump with a NAIA automatic qualifying mark of 7.14 meters (23'5"). Gill came back later to grab second place in the high jump at 1.93 meters (6'4").
JP Robles' heave of 51.55 meters (169'1) in the javelin was good enough for second place.
The 4x100 relay quartet of Dave Voss, Gill, Bryan Allingham, and Ian Brown hit the finish line in second place with a 42.27, a provisional qualifying mark for the NAIA Championships.
Allingham was joined by Kyle Cassidy, Andy Marston, and Brad Wetherell in the 4x400 for another second place finish with a time of 3;19.15, also a NAIA provisional time.
Allingham, Marston, and Cassidy placed third, fifth, and sixth respectively in the 400 meter dash. Isaac Bryan turned in a third place effort in the 1500 meter run at 4:00.22. Voss also claimed a third place in the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 55.68.
Major points also came in the triple jump where Cory Anderson, Randy Magnuson, and Mark Beckford took fourth, fifth, and sixth respectively.
Next week the Trojans travel to Indiana Wesleyan for the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships.
