Gill Sets Taylor, MCC Long Jump Record

April 24, 2009

Taylor University sophomore Scott Gill soared to a jump of 24' 11" Friday at the Mid-Central College Conference Track & Field Championships to break a Taylor school record set nearly 20 years ago.

Gill also surpassed his own MCC Championship Meet record of 23' 6 ¾" that he set last year as a freshman. His new Taylor record broke a mark set by Paul Meriweather on May 13, 1989.

With six events scored in the meet, the Trojans stand in fifth place with 23 points. Bethel leads the competition after one day with 62 points.

Joining Gill as a finalist in the long jump was freshman Randy Magnuson, who finished in eighth place with a leap of 21' 5 ½".

Taylor earned points from two running finals Friday afternoon. The 4 x 800 meter relay team of Andy Marston, Brian Tencher, Nathan Kirsch, and Isaac Bryan finished second with a time of 7:49.45. They were edged out by less than a second by the team from Indiana Wesleyan.

Also finishing in the points for Taylor were Braxton Fritz (34:05.28) and Michael Pabody (34:14.71), who finished sixth and eighth respectively in the 10,000 meter run.

In preliminary action, Bryan Allingham and Ian Brown registered the top two fastest times in the 200 meter dash headed into Saturday's final.

The hurdling trio of Cory Anderson, Dave Voss, and JP Robles also made it through to the finals in the 110 meter hurdles.

Gill and Brown will be Taylor's representatives in the 100 meter dash finals.

Saturday's action will get underway at 1:30 pm at the George C. Glass Track & Field Complex on Taylor's campus.
