2007 Season Review
The 2007 Taylor men's tennis team flirted with perfection finishing the fall season 12-1. An unblemished 7-0 conference record earned the team the regular season Mid-Central Conference championship. Olivet Nazarene University handed the Trojans their only loss of the fall in their final regular season match.
Taylor's regular season dominance carried into the conference tournament as they clinched the title on the second day of the three day event. The Trojans advanced five of a possible six participants to the final day of competition.
Freshman Felipe Bedon (#1) and senior Jorge Burmicky (#2) won singles titles at their respective positions. Sophomores Dave Smith (#3) and Jack Reed (#5) and senior Andrew Miller (#6) each notched singles runner-up finishes.
In doubles action Smith teamed up with senior Kyle Brown to win the #3 title. Burmicky and Miller paired for a runner-up finish.
Head Coach Don Taylor received his third MCC Coach of the Year award in his 13th season at the helm for the Trojans. Bedon, Burmicky and Smith joined Taylor with postseason accolades earning MCC All-Conference selections.
At the conclusion of the season the Intercollegiate Tennis Association ranked Bedon and Burmicky in their fall top 50 rankings at #43 and #44, respectively.
The Trojans' fantastic fall performance qualified them for spring action and a spot in the Region VIII tournament where they played for the right to go to the NAIA National Tournament.
Taylor finished the spring season with a 5-5 record. They picked up two wins on a spring break trip to Orlando, Fla., and two more against Elmhurst and Indiana Wesleyan heading into the Region VIII tournament.
After defeating Marian College 8-1 in the opening round, the Trojans fell to Aquinas College 5-4 in the championship match, narrowly missing a bid to the national tournament.
The Trojans finished the season with an overall record of 17-6 and picked up their first conference championship since 2001.
