2007 Season Preview
As head coach Don Taylor looks ahead to the 2007 season he will be looking at an opportunity to return to the top of the MCC conference. Having lost only two seniors, Taylor, in his 13th season at the helm, returns five of his top six singles players and had a tremendous recruiting season that could put the Trojans on top.
Seniors Jorge Burmicky, Kyle Brown, and Andrew Miller held down the 1, 4, and 6 spots in singles action during the '06 season. Their leadership and skill on the court should prove invaluable to the Trojans this season. Sophomores Dave Smith and Bryce Perkins return, having spent most of the 2006 season at the third and fifth singles slots respectively.
Brown and Perkins formed TU's number two doubles unit last season, the only doubles team that played together the entire season. Finding the best combinations for the other doubles teams and getting consistent performances from them will be one of the keys for this season.
Also returning to the Taylor roster are sophomores: Eric True, Paul Velting, Brad Hoehner, and Jack Reed.
The Trojans welcome four newcomers to the lineup: Steve Erny, of Spring Lake, Michigan; Eric Skala, of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; Ben Rutt, of Strasburg, Pennsylvania; and Felipe Bedon from Ibarra, Ecuador, who graduated from Jay County high school in Portland, Indiana.
Coach Taylor believes that Bedon will have an immediate impact on TU's lineup and that the group as a whole has the ability to contribute to the Trojans' success.
Coach Taylor is looking forward to an exciting season with talent, depth, and strong leadership filling his roster.
