Men's Soccer Wins in First MCC Match of '09
September 22, 2009
In the first Mid-Central College Conference match of the season the Taylor University men's soccer team defeated Spring Arbor University 3-1. The win pushes Taylor to 4-5 on the season.
Sophomore Tyler Beachler led the attack for the Trojans with a pair of goals in four attempts. Beachler improved his team-leading total to nine goals on the season.
The Cougars were the aggressor in the first stanza posting 11 shot attempts to Taylor's six and capitalizing on one in the 22nd minute of action taking a 1-0 lead into the break.
The Trojans turned the tide in the second half, however, outshooting SAU 9-3 and adding a trio of goals. Beachler offered the tying counter in the 11th minute where the score remained knotted at 1-1 for nearly 15 minutes.
With less than ten minutes to go Taylor's Joel Ritz punched in his second of the season for the go-ahead-to-stay-ahead goal.
Beachler sealed the deal less than four minutes later off an assist from Ian Perrotte.
The Cougars fall to 4-3-1 on the season and 0-1 in MCC play.
Taylor returns to the pitch on Friday when they step out of league action for the final time of the season against St. Francis (IL). Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
