Trojans Soccer Snaps Skid with Shutout
September 09, 2009
Three Trojans scored in the men's soccer team's 6-0 shutout of Marygrove College today. The win snaps a five-game losing streak for the Trojans and improves their record to 2-5.
Sophomore Tyler Beachler led the way with his first career hat trick. Beachler has recorded a pair of two-goal games this season in the opener vs. Indiana Tech and on Sept. 4 against Judson University. His team-high seven goals puts him just three goals shy of his 2008 total of 10, which earned him Second Team All-Conference honors.
"We did a lot of things right today," head coach Gary Ross said. "This was good for us after playing a stretch of really tough games and being shorthanded due to illness and injury."
Midfielder Ian Perrotte added a pair of goals bringing his season total to three. Junior Joel Pincomb jumped in the action as well with his second goal of the season. Freshman Joel Ritz notched one assist.
Josh Giuliano recorded the first shutout in goal for the Trojans this season.
Taylor is back in action on Sept. 16, traveling to NCAA Division II Saginaw Valley State for a 4:30 p.m. game time.
