Men's Soccer Season Ends in Semifinals
November 07, 2009
The Taylor University men's soccer season came to an end Saturday evening with a 3-0 loss to top-seeded Bethel in the semifinals of the Mid-Central College Conference tournament. Taylor finishes the 2009 season with an 8-11 overall record.
The Trojans managed to hold even with the unbeaten Pilots for over 44 minutes despite being outshot 18-4 in the first half, but with four seconds to go in the opening frame, the eighth-ranked team in the country broke the scoreless tie with a goal off the foot of Romulo Nobrega.
The late counter was a devastating blow that carried momentum into the second stanza where Bethel held Taylor to just one shot attempt.
The Pilots scored two more in the 64th and 69th minute to shut out the Trojans and seal a place in the conference championship on Saturday vs. Indiana Wesleyan.
Junior Ian Perrotte led the Trojan attack with three of the five shots on goal.
For the second time in four games, Taylor's Tyler Beachler was held without a shot on goal. The Trojans' leading scorer capped off a career season ranked ninth in the NAIA with 18 goals.
Josh Giuliano recorded seven saves in over 78 minutes of action.
