Men's Soccer Downed by No. 12 Bethel
October 10, 2009
Winners in five of its last seven matches, the Taylor University men's soccer team could not capitalize on the momentum against 12th-ranked Bethel College. Taylor fell 7-2, dropping its record to 6-8 and 3-2 in the Mid-Central College Conference.
The Pilots dominated the majority of the game attempting 23 shots and allowing just five by the Trojans, but Taylor was able to match the threats early. Tyler Beachler answered each of Bethel's opening goals with two counters of his own. The first was assisted by Stephen Groves and the second knotted the game at 2-2
Bethel netted two more goals to take a 4-2 lead into halftime and eliminated any hope for the Trojans with three more in the second stanza.
Beachler entered the match ranked sixth in the nation in goals scored and pushed his conference-leading total to 15 today.
The Trojans are at home on Wednesday for their final regular season home match. They play host to Goshen College at 4 p.m.
