Johnson Captures Bethel Invite Title

The Lady Trojan cross country team placed third at the six-team Bethel Invitational on Saturday morning. TU was led by senior Alyssa Johnson who finished 1st for the second consecutive week as she covered the 5000 meter distance with a personal best time of 18:34.
Coach Cindy Callison's troup was just two points behind 21st ranked St. Xavier. 10th ranked Indiana Wesleyan claimed the top spot with 30 points.
While Johnson claimed the winner's role, the Lady Trojan pack of Hilary Peterson, Ashley Henry, Kirsten Hegelein and Tabitha Bogue placed 15th, 17, 18th, and 24th respectively times of 19:34, 19:41, 19:43, and 19:54. The quintet combined to notch the team's best overall time in the last eight years.
Kelsey Vanhousen and Kayce Swofford rounded out the top seven by placing 36th and 39th at 20:50 and 21:09.
Coach Callison was extremely proud of her squad, "This was easily our best outing of the season so far. AJ was great out front, but our pack made all the difference. It was a pleasure to watch the team run with such confidence."
The Lady Trojans take next weekend off from competition before heading to Grand Rapids, Michigan on October 24th for the Great Lakes Invitational hosted by Aquinas College.
