Trojan Harriers Take Title at IWU Invitational
October 03, 2009
Great pack running led the 24th ranked men's cross country team to a victory at the Indiana Wesleyan University Wildcat Invitational on Saturday morning. A 3-4-5 finish from Michael Pabody, Isaac Bryan, and Tom Robertson was key in the Trojans win.
Pabody crossed the finish line in 26:15, Bryan at 26:23, and Robertson in 26:29.
The Trojans executed their plan to perfection as the team ran in small groups to try to battle the windy conditions.
Following the lead trio in 8th place was freshman Corbin Slater (27:02), with two more Trojans, Brian Tencher (27:50) and Caleb Pack (26:55) in 13th and 14th respectively.
Matt Bane (28:49), Nate Kirsch (29:20), and Tim Griffiths (29:39) completed the TU team.
Head coach Ted Bowers was most pleased with the team approach, "I felt we ran a great race as a team. The conditions slowed our times down a little, but our 1-5 gap was only 1:35, our best to date. Brian Tencher really stepped it up and ran in our top five for the first time. We have a long way to go, but I am certainly pleased with where we were today."
This victory marked the first time in ten years that the Trojans have won the IWU Invitational.
Next week the team travels to the Bethel Invitational.
