Lady Trojans Finish 5th at MCC

Alyssa Johnson's record-setting victory in the 1500-meter run highlighted the Lady Trojans' track and field team 5th place finish in the Mid-Central Conference Championships hosted by Taylor.
Johnson pulled away from the pack with 800 meters to go and never looked back as she raced away to a 4:42.86 to break the four-year old record.
The junior bounced back in an hour to place second in the 800 meters with a time of 2:18.87.
Morgan Achterhoff sped to a 3rd place finish in the 400 meters in 59.01, setting a new school record in the process. The sophomore had a very busy and productive day as she anchored the 4x100 relay team to a 3d place finish in 50.89, then closed out the meet by anchoring the 4x400 relay team to a time of 4:02.31 for 4th place.
The 4x100 quartet was composed of Cassie Vaflor, Christine Williams, Stephanie Kenney and Achterhoff, while the 4x400 team consisted of Kenney, LaJoya Smith, Amy Malinowski and Achterhoff.
Freshman Kenney grabbed 7th in the 200 at 25.94 and 8th in the 400 with a time of 1:00.52.
Andrea Elsman, who set a new school record in the pole vault on Friday, tripled jumped 36' 0.25" to place 4th.
Next weekend the team will compete in the NCCAA Championships at Indiana Wesleyan.
