Baseball Splits Twinbill at IU Southeast
March 06, 2009
The Taylor University baseball team split two contests with Indiana University Southeast on Friday in the first day of a weekend series.
In game one, the Trojans fell 9-3 despite senior Cassidy Emery's home run and double on three appearances at the plate. Freshman Travis Carsten recorded the loss after 4 1/3 innings pitched where he allowed four earned runs and six hits.
The Trojans responded in game two in dramatic fashion. Trailing 4-1, two Trojans crossed the plate in the sixth and three more followed suit in the seventh to put Taylor on top, 6-4. Senior Paul Passiales went 2-4 from the dish including the game-tying hit in the seventh inning while Emery kept his bat alive, recording his second home run of the day.
Sophomore pitcher Brent Kimbro picked up the win in 1 2/3 innings of relief allowing zero runs on zero hits. Junior Michael Kraynak pitched the seventh inning to record his second save of the year.
Taylor pushed its record to 5-4 on the young season and will face IU Southeast in another doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
