Homeschool Students

Homeschool Information

Student talkingOne of the fastest growing movements in education today is the homeschool movement. Each year, the number of homeschooled applicants at Taylor University increases. We know that homeschooled students and their parents often have many questions unique to their educational experience. The material that is provided on this website is designed to provide you with information about our application process.  Homeschooled students have contributed much to the Taylor Community in the past and we anticipate continued growth in the numbers of homeschooled students desiring a Christ-centered education in the future!

Sophomores and Juniors

During a student's sophomore or junior year, any student who is interested in Taylor University should contact the Office of Admissions and request general information.

Campus Visits

We encourage students to schedule a personal campus visit. These may be scheduled Monday through Friday during office hours (8:00 - 5:00 during the academic year and 8:00 - 4:30 during the summer) and by appointment on most Saturday mornings. A personal interview must be completed in order to be considered for admission to Taylor. Students may schedule their interviews no earlier than the spring of their junior year.

Application Process

Students who have expressed interest in Taylor will receive an application the summer preceding their senior year. Completed applications will be processed beginning the first week in September.

All final decisions for admission will be made by April 15 for the Fall semester. For an application to be considered complete, the University must have received the following information:

  • Application
  • Essay
  • Guidance Counselor Recommendation*
  • Pastor Recommendation
  • Official High School Transcript**
  • Official SAT or ACT scores

*In many homeschooled settings, one of the parents will complete the Guidance Counselor Recommendation Form for their student. Since most parents will have a positive bias for their child, it is helpful (if the student has taken classes outside the home) for a teacher to send the University a letter of recommendation.

**If the homeschool curriculum has been with an organized program, this should be specified on the transcript. In the absence of such a program, a course description and/or reading list for each class should accompany the transcript. Since Taylor is distinctively Christian, attention is paid to the personal statement of faith as well as the recommendation from the pastor. Extracurricular activities are examined in the light of the contribution that the student will make to the Taylor community.

From this process, Taylor University attempts to find the most well balanced students academically, socially and spiritually.

Evaluation Process

All students are evaluated by the same set of standards. Academic preparedness and achievement are examined through the applicant's grade point average, class rank (if applicable) and ACT or SAT scores. Challenging curriculum, including advanced placement and dual credit courses from a college will be given special consideration. In filling out the application, the student applying to the University will write one essay. The essay will focus on demonstrating their commitment to Christ. A personal interview with an admissions counselor is recommended but not required and can be scheduled by calling the Office of Admissions at 1.800.882.3456.
