CRAM Summer Honors Program

CRAM LogoJune 14 - July 3, 2008

The clock glares 4:00 am...

Mountain Dew cans litter the floor...

Your fingers run through your messed up hair...

Staring at your book through blurry eyes...

Against all reason, you hope that these obscure facts will somehow stick...

All the while you repeat over and over to yourself, I'll never do this again...

Cramming.

It's got a bad name. It implies you're unprepared. It's a word tinged with regret.

So why would we name our Summer Honors Program...CRAM?

We're taking a new perspective on the subject. We know what it is to study for a week and still beg to look over your notes one more time. It's not always about being unprepared...sometimes the test just matters that much.

A summer program sounded simple. Bring in some students; offer some college credit, sort of a drive-thru "McCollege". But we don't offer this kind of education during the school year, why would we lower the expectations. Instead of picking up a fast-food education, we're inviting you to a meal.

CRAM is about more than granting college credit. The first two weeks of CRAM will involve coursework that will require deep thinking, while challenging you to consider your studies in light of the culture at large. During the final week Steve Baarendse, James Spiegel and Jay Kesler will help you to confront your calling while equipping you to live as salt and light.

It's our desire that you walk away with not only credits on a transcript, but with tools that will help you take this knowledge and actively engage the world around you.

Plan ahead...CRAM.
