Church Matching Grant FAQs

Q: Are students eligible for a Church Matching Grant every year?

Yes, providing the pledge form is submitted and the actual gift is received each year by the stated deadlines.

Q: Can I access the pledge form on the Web?

Yes. You can find the pledge form here.

Q: Can a church contribute more than $1,000?

Yes. Churches are encouraged to contribute generously in helping their students, but the maximum match from Taylor University per student is $1,000. Any amount given by the church over $1,000 will be applied directly to the student's account.

Q: Can church members, parents, or relatives designate their gifts for particular students?

No, only the church can recommend specific students as recipients. The intent of this program is for your church to invest in your college education and therefore make it more affordable for you to attend Taylor. For you, your parents, or your relatives to make a gift to the church and ask that you be the recipient would violate the spirit of this program. In no way is this to be used as a conduit for receiving tax credit or as a means of matching tuition dollars from you, your parents or your relatives.

Q: How can I submit the pledge form to Taylor?

Taylor University will accept all pledge forms received via mail or fax through March 10. The church's gift for the entire academic year must reach our office by June 1. Gifts received after June 1 will be applied to the student's account without a match from Taylor.

Q: What amount will Taylor match?

Taylor University will match the church's gift dollar-for-dollar up to a maximum of $1,000 per year per student or a maximum of $500 per semester per student.

Q: What are the deadlines for the pledge form and church gift?

For 2007-08, the pledge form must be received by the Financial Aid Office by March 10. The church's gift for the entire academic year must be received by the Financial Aid Office by June 1. Gifts received after June 1 will be applied to the student's account without a match from Taylor.

Q: What if I'm not sure I'm attending Taylor by the March 10th deadline?

The money does not need to be received until June 1. Submitting the pledge is not a commitment to attend.
