Systems Curriculum

The four major themes of the curriculum are: Analysis, Information Technology, Quality Management, and Operations.  The courses are shown below: 41-43 hours are required. However two of the courses (MAT 151 and IAS 330) also meet general education requirements and others may meet major requirements. The systems curriculum also replaces the foreign language requirements of the Bachelor of Arts degree. So the net impact of adding the systems curriculum is no more than 34-36 hours and probably less depending on major. Students have no difficulty in completing major and systems requirements in four years.

The curriculum is taught primarily by faculty from the Computer Science & Engineering department. However, the systems curriculum is not a minor in computer science.  All together there are 14 hours of information technology: programming, database, and design.  Information technology is a major theme because behind any major system like supply chain there is invariably an information system.  The goal is to graduate students who understand information technology in order to be able to solve real world problems.

Adding the Systems Curriculum complements your major with systems training.  For example, an art major who adds the systems curriculum will graduate with a Bachelor of Science in art/systems instead of a Bachelor of Arts in art. If you find the Systems program interesting, take a look at the Systems Engineering degree.

An SAT score of about 1200 with balance between the math and verbal/writing components is a good predictor of success.
