Catalog of U.S. Government Publications

The Catalog of U.S. Government Publications (CGP) is a search and retrieval service that provides bibliographic records of U.S. Government information products. Use it to link to Federal agency online resources or identify materials distributed to Federal depository libraries. Coverage begins with January 1994 and new records are added daily.


Columbia International Affairs Online (CIAO)

Columbia International Affairs Online (CIAO) is the most comprehensive source for theory and research in international affairs. It publishes a wide range of scholarship from 1991 onward that includes working papers from university research institutes, occasional papers series from NGOs, foundation-funded research projects, proceedings from conferences, books, journals and policy briefs. CIAO is also widely-recognized source for teaching materials including original case studies written by leading international affairs experts, course packs of background readings for history and political science classes, and special features like the analysis of a bin Laden recruitment tape with video. All sections of CIAO are updated monthly.


CountryWatch

Contents: provides up-to-date information and news on the countries of the world in a concise and useful form. Includes cultural, political, economic, and business information and maps. Updated daily. Country Reviews are annual, but updated dynamically on the Web site to account for major changes.


EIS: Digests of Environmental Impact Statements  (See Dan Bowell to use this database.)

EIS extracts the key issues from complex government-released environmental impact statements, converting massive documents into concise, readable abstracts. Each entry includes a clear description of the project, sections on positive impact and negative consequences, and legal mandates.

EIS coverage: 1985 - current.


JSTOR

JSTOR (Journal STORage) presents the searchable full text of the complete back files for over 100 important scholarly journals. Coverage generally includes the first volume through issues published prior to the most recent 3-5 years (current issues are not available in JSTOR). Includes journals for the following disciplines: African-American studies, anthropology, Asian studies, ecology, economics, education, finance, history, literature, mathematics, philosophy, political science, population studies, sociology, and statistics.


LexisNexis Academic

Subjects: news, business, legal, and reference information. Contents: Provides access to a variety of full-text sources, including world-wide newspapers, magazines, news wires, and trade journals. Also features government documents, state & federal laws and regulations, case law, company and industry information, reference directories and biographical sources. Produced by Lexis-Nexis. Coverage: varies; strong for 1980s-present. Updated daily.


Library PressDisplay

With more than 500 newspapers from Algeria to Zimbabwe available the day they are published, PressDisplay offers current world news coverage like no other service out there. There are more than thirty newspapers from the UK alone. Not only can you read the latest edition of these papers online, you can print, email, or even blog an article. "Smart navigating" is available for select newspapers, a feature which allows you to activate an audio version of an article and create an English (or other) translation. (The title list indicates these options through an icon.) You can also search for keywords across the newspapers available through PressDisplay. For example, a search on "Putin and Iran" returns over 500 articles. The up-to-date coverage goes back 60 days, thus providing only the most current news.


Military and Government Collection Periodical Provided by the INSPIRE Network

Designed to offer current news pertaining to all branches of the military and government, this database offers a thorough collection of periodicals, academic journals, and other content pertinent to the increasing needs of those sites. The Military & Government Collection provides cover-to-cover full text for more than 300 journals and periodicals and indexing and abstracts for more than 400 titles.


Project MUSE

Project MUSE provides full-text access to current content from over 400 journal titles.These journals cover topics predominantly in the humanities and social sciences, specifically including subject areas like Latin American studies, International Relations, Religion, Politics, Philosophy, Literature, Film and Theater, as well as History and many more. Highlights of this collection include: 100% full-text article access with no black-out dates for coverage; decades of back files; scholarly, peer-reviewed journals; and a choice of HTML (web page) or PDF formats to read, print, and download.
