AccessScience

AccessScience is based upon the McGraw-Hill Encyclopedia of Science & Technology, 9th edition and its corresponding annual yearbooks, the Dictionary of Scientific and Technical Terms, 6th edition. AccessScience contains 8,000 articles written by the leading figures in their fields, including 30 Nobel Prize winners, over 2000 science biographies and 13,000 high-quality illustrations, news stories from Science News, and McGraw-Hill science editors’ selected websites for further research capabilities. In addition, AccessScience is updated daily with new articles, research updates and current events.

Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ)

The aim of the Directory of Open Access Journals is to increase the visibility and ease of use of open access scientific and scholarly journals thereby promoting their increased usage and impact. The Directory aims to be comprehensive and cover all open access scientific and scholarly journals that use a quality control system to guarantee the content. In short a one stop shop for users to Open Access Journals.

Google Scholar

This search narrows the Google web to a more manageable, more reliable set of information--determined "scholarly" and thus more appropriate for research projects. Though not all results will be available for free, Google Scholar is an excellent identification tool, from which you can search library databases or request articles and book chapters through Zondervan's Interlibrary Loan service. This advanced search screen allows you to specify phrases to search, words to exclude, author last names, and even subject categories.

MathSciNet

Created and maintained by the American Mathematical Society, this database is a primary tool for finding research literature in mathematics. Covers articles from about 1,700 journals, as well as conference proceedings and books.

PROLA (Physical Review Online Archive)

PROLA is The American Physical Society's Physical Review Online Archive. The service was launched in 1998, with an archive of online copy of Physical Review from 1985 through 1996. Starting in January 2001, it was expanded to include all APS journal content back to 1893. APS has also begun a year-by-year migration of recent material into PROLA. For the year 2003, 1999 material has been migrated. In 2004, 2000 will be migrated and so forth. Reviews of Modern Physics is now part of PROLA as well. The complete archive consists of all of Physical Review back to 1893, all of Physical Review Letters back to 1958, and all of Reviews of Modern Physics back to 1929. The majority of the collection consists of scanned images of the printed journals available as either GIF images or as PDF files. Portions of the 1995 and 1996 content and all content thereafter, however, consist of PDF files that are produced directly as part of APS's paper printing process.
