Google Scholar

This search narrows the Google web to a more manageable, more reliable set of information--determined "scholarly" and thus more appropriate for research projects. Though not all results will be available for free, Google Scholar is an excellent identification tool, from which you can search library databases or request articles and book chapters through Zondervan's Interlibrary Loan service. This advanced search screen allows you to specify phrases to search, words to exclude, author last names, and even subject categories.

Naxos Music Library

The Naxos Music Library provides on-demand audio streaming to over 75,000 tracks drawn from more than 5,000 CDs. The Naxos label had more Grammy nominations in 2004 than any other classical label and also more releases. While the Naxos Library consists mainly of classical music, it also provides a growing range of world/folk music, contemporary jazz, and Chinese music. You can explore the "library" by musical genre from the "Standard Search" screen. The "Advanced Search" allows you to search by composer, genre, instrument, country, etc. (The default in "Advanced Search" is a boolean "and" search; in other words both terms you enter must be present. For example, to search for Mozart operas put enter "Mozart" as composer and "opera" as genre.) Clicking on the "magnifying glass" by each category will prompt you for a list of search names or terms from which you can select. Click on a track that you want to hear, which then takes you to the album on which the track is found. There you select a specific track(s) or all of them on the album. Then click on "Play Selections." The Naxos Library streams at 64K using Windows Media Player. It's not quite CD quality but is quite good. The site also provides aids for further information on the use of this resource. To visit the Naxos USA site go to: http://www.naxos.com/naxos/usa/naxos_usa.htm .
