WorldCat Search Toolbars and Plug-ins

10.10.2006

OCLC's WorldCat is a service through which multiple libraries can indicate what resources are in their collections. This makes it possible for anyone using the service to find out which of those libraries have a particular item. WorldCat has now made it possible to find out if a book or video is available through the local library right from the toolbar of a browser.

Depending on your preference, there are three primary options:

Yahoo! Toolbar

Google Toolbar

Firefox Search Box Extension

The Yahoo! toolbar requires you to replace any existing Yahoo! toolbar you have installed, but the Google toolbar is just a configuration setting if you already have it installed.

For instructions on how to download, configure and use these browser illuminations, link to the WorldCat search toolbars and plug-ins page.
